Most size guides online copy from each other, and they disagree. One says a Twitch emote must be under 25 KB, the next says 1 MB. This page only lists what Twitch, Kick and YouTube say in their own help centres, with a link to each, all checked on 18 October 2026. Where a platform doesn't publish a size, we say so instead of guessing.

The detail, and what each number means when you're designing, is below.
Twitch
Emotes
- Static emotes: PNG, square, with a fully transparent background. Upload either one image between 112 × 112 and 4096 × 4096 px (auto-resize makes the smaller sizes for you) or three images at 28 × 28, 56 × 56 and 112 × 112 px. The file can't be over 1 MB.
- Animated emotes: GIF, square, in the same sizes. 1 MB in auto-resize mode, 512 KB per file if you upload the three sizes yourself. No more than 60 frames, and no flashing more than 3 times in one second.
- Twitch also asks you to look at the emote at 100% before you submit, so the lines are sharp and any lettering reads.
Design note: you upload the 112, but most of chat sees the 28. Check the emote at 28 px early, while it's still easy to change. A thick outline and one clear expression survive the shrink. Fine detail and small text don't.
Subscriber badges, flair and Bits badges
- Subscriber badges: the same image at 18 × 18, 36 × 36 and 72 × 72 px. PNG, transparent background, 25 KB maximum.
- Badge flair for Tier 2 and Tier 3: the same three sizes for each tier, six images in all, same format and limit.
- Bits badges: 18, 36 and 72 px, static PNG only.
Design note: 18 px is about the height of a lowercase letter in chat. A badge set reads best as one shape that changes with tenure, through colour, a frame or an added gem, rather than a different picture for every month.
Profile picture and banner
- Profile picture: 256 × 256 px, up to 10 MB, JPG, PNG or GIF.
- Profile banner: 1200 × 480 px recommended, up to 10 MB, JPG, PNG or GIF. Twitch scales it to 480 px high and stretches it when a browser window is wider than the image. Its own advice is to make the image as wide as you can and keep the graphics towards the left.
Offline screen (video player banner)
Twitch doesn't publish a size for this. It fills the 16:9 video player while you're offline, so 1920 × 1080 px is the safe choice. Animated video player banners aren't supported. If you want motion there, Twitch's channel trailer (up to 60 seconds) plays at the top of your offline page for new viewers.
Panels
Panel images can be up to 320 px wide and 300 px high, under 2.9 MB. Anything bigger is resized down to those limits. Design at 320 px wide so nothing gets resampled.
Overlays and alerts
These aren't uploaded to Twitch. They live in OBS or Streamlabs, on top of your stream, so their size is your canvas size, which is 1920 × 1080 px for most streams. Build the overlay at exactly that size and it maps pixel for pixel. Alerts are sized for the spot they sit in on that canvas.
Kick
- Emotes: one PNG or GIF at 500 × 500 px, under 1 MB. Every channel can upload up to 60 emotes. Affiliates and Verified channels can add up to 24 subscriber emotes on top. Kick lists no smaller sizes, so check yours at chat size yourself.
- Subscriber badges: PNG with a transparent background, one for each tenure slot (1 month, 3 months and so on). Kick doesn't state a pixel size. The upload screen under Channel → Community → Sub Badges is the authority.
- Avatar: at least 128 × 128 px, up to 4 MB, JPG or PNG.
- Banner (top of your channel page while you're offline): at least 1280 × 700 px, up to 4 MB, JPG or PNG.
- Offline banner (shown after your stream ends): 1920 × 1080 px, up to 4 MB, JPG or PNG.
- Panels: Kick doesn't publish a panel size.
Moving from Twitch? Re-export emotes at 500 px from the source file, not from the 112. The banner needs a new layout rather than a stretch: Twitch's 1200 × 480 is 2.5 : 1, and Kick's 1280 × 700 is closer to 1.8 : 1.
YouTube
- Profile picture: shown at 98 × 98 px. JPG, GIF, BMP or PNG (no animated GIFs), up to 15 MB. YouTube crops it to a circle, so keep the mark away from the corners.
- Channel banner: 2560 × 1440 px recommended (YouTube says especially for TV), at least 2048 × 1152 px at 16:9, 6 MB or smaller. At the minimum size the safe area for text and logos is 1235 × 338 px in the centre. Scaled up to 2560 × 1440 that's about 1544 × 423 px. Everything outside it gets cut off on some screen.
- Video watermark: square, at least 150 × 150 px, under 1 MB.
- Thumbnails: 16:9 and at least 640 px wide. YouTube suggests 3840 × 2160 px for videos (2160 × 3840 for Shorts). JPG or PNG, up to 50 MB uploaded from a computer, 2 MB from the mobile app.
Design note: a thumbnail is judged at the size of a phone's home feed, not at 4K. One face, one subject and three or four words at most.
Before you export: three checks
- Look at it at real size. 28 px for an emote, 18 px for a badge, 98 px for a YouTube avatar. If it doesn't read there, it doesn't read.
- Check transparency on both chat themes. Emotes and badges sit on dark and light chat. A dark outline vanishes on one of them unless there's a light edge too.
- Export every size from the source file. Keep a large, layered master and export each size from it. Scaling a 112 px export up to 500 px for Kick is how emotes go blurry.
